Today the seasons change at 5:18pm with the arrival of the Autumnal Equinox. As you read this I am on vacation at the Outer Banks in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
To celebrate the Equinox, we’ll be having a “Gragnano-off” where we will do a blind taste test pitting the Grotto de Sole Gragnano available at the Italian Store in Arlington, Virginia against the Cantine Federiciane Gragnano we obtained from In Vino Veritas during Mission:Gragnano. My sourdough culture has been packed in a cooler and I’ll make my Sicilian (recipe to be posted soon) on another night this week, but during the Equinox tonight I’ll be making my first try at grilled pizza on the charcoal grill.

Crumb shot from my Sicilian made over Labor Day weekend
You can also bet I’ll be hitting a few pizza joints in the Outer Banks this week. I’ll report back when I return home to Charm City. Happy Equinox and have a great week! –PB

Gragnano & My Labor Day Sicilian

Damn that friggin’ pizza looks good. Hope you and Mrs. Pblogger are having a grand old time. Just stay away from that uber-boring play “The Lost Colony” on Manteo.
Ciao,
Paulie Gee
We skipped that deal……..but we did have a grand old time. Thanks for the info and well wishes Paulie
I LOVE GRAGNANO! But…I can never find it! Your pizza looks insanely good!
Jen, Gianluca and Gianbruno’s shop in the Upper East Side, In Vino Veritas, stocks the Cantine Federiciane Monteleone Gragnano. It’s on the corner of 1st avenue and 74th. Give ‘em a call at (212) 288-0100 to hold a case. It’s a haul from Queens, but if your ever in the UES they are a good shop!
